Reasons to get a French Bulldog

Updated: Mar 21, 2022

The French Bulldog is popularly known for their irresistible looks, with their wrinkly face, bat-like ears, and solid body shape. Originally known as bouledogue Francais, they’re more commonly known as a Frenchie.

Easy Care

Reason number one, which is a big factor for some families, is Frenchies are easy to care for. With and easy and low maintenance coat, brushing your Frenchie once or twice a week will suffice. Take time to look for any bare spots, scabs, flaky rough or dry skin while brushing your Frenchie will help keep their coat and skin super healthy. You must also trim their nails regularly to avoid tearing and splitting since French bulldogs don’t naturally wear their nails down.

Appearance

French Bulldogs coats come in a variety of different colours. This may include cream, fawn, different shades of brindle as well as solid colours. Frenchies are Brachycephalic (squished) faced. Standing at about 30cms tall and weighing between 10kg – 15kg.

Attitude

French Bulldogs have a reputation for stubbornness. But this doesn’t mean that frenchies are not knowledgeable and great family dogs. With the correct training, these little dogs will add brightness to your family with their cheeky and fun personalities. Frenchies like to express their love with big sloppy kisses and warm cuddles, perfect for dog lovers.

Exercise

Frenchies have relatively low energy levels and don’t need an extensive amount of exercising. They of course need daily exercise to keep their weight and mental health in check, and this can involve playtime in the backyard, or short walks. Frenchies are prone to heat exhaustion and you should be careful to not overdo it when exercising your Frenchie. Cool mornings and evenings are the perfect opportunity for walks and active time.

As seen in the Gif above, as cuddly as frenchies can be, it can be dangerous for frenchies to be on your couch or any high surfaces as if a fall occurs, this can cause spinal issues.

If youre looking for a low maintenance, cheeky, loveable dog or puppy to join your home, a French Bulldog is the breed to get!
